When the wizarding world fell into the great economic depression they had no idea how to cope. unemployment rocketed. inflation caused mass panic. suddenly the problems of the muggle world were mimiced in the wizarding. nothing was the same, and everything fell into disarray. the confusion and the misery reaching such levels they turned to shere desperation. and it was upon this desperation that draco malfoy played. he promised a new order, an answer, and a new life for all those who would follow him. he told them who was to blame; the muggleborns and the halfbloods. the wizards who were not wizards at all stealing all the jobs and the money from the purebloods who really deserved them.
and in those moments of despair the people believed him, electing him despite his past indescretions and the radical nature of his policies. the purebloods once more pressuring the voters through use of terror and threats. that was when it all changed. his first act as the new minister of magic was to ban all of those with 'unpure' blood from attending hogwarts, then he banned them from entering certain areas; forcing them to live in slums not fit for purpose. those who refused this new order were enslaved to work for the purebloods in their upper world, or executed in the purpose built chambers on the top floor of the ministry of magic. for three years this regime continued un-opposed, it became an accepted fact of life. until one night a pair of twins escaped the execution chamber and disappeared into the sewers. the first members of the underground movement. liliana and william van allen.
this rebellion has learnt from the mistakes of the past and so began to work under the radar rather than sailing above it, hiding themselves below the cities that draco malfoy thinks he has managed to protect so well from the undesirables. every person that joins the underground agrees to fight fire with fire, following all orders without hesitation, until they are either killed or the government has been over-thrown. they are all crying for a revolution, but where do you stand on the matter? i can't wait to find out.
