Mikeal sat at a table in the corner, working on an essay that would be due for potions next week. He had barely been able to get an Outstanding on his O.W.L. exams to be able to continue. Mikeal aspired to be an Auror, and they needed to be more than proficient in several areas of magic, including potions. At least he wasn't too horrible at them, but the fact that he was a Gryffindor N.E.W.T. student in Professor Snape's classroom made it exceptionally hard, especially in a class full of primarily other Slytherins, though there were a few Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs. Somehow, he was managing to get by. Mikeal sighed as he dipped the nib of his quill into his ink, then continued writing his essay.

He smiled slightly as he looked down and hten up. HE couldn't believe that he ended up acting the way eh did around the hufflepuff girl. Around most girls he could flirt and be sweet, but he had never had his voice break up like he was nervous. He didn't feel too nervous when he had noticed her from across the way on occassion, but when actualy rying to talk to her, it was new and different. There was a bit of worry n him as well, specially because she was younger than him. He ran a hand through his hair as he entered the commons from the portrait. Maybe he should do something with his hair, cut it. "Hey Mikeal." He stated as he moved and plopped down on the sofa.

"Hello Charles," said Mikeal in his accent without looking up from his essay. He recognized the voice as belonging to the seventh year head boy without looking at him. Mikeal had a knack with that sort of thing. He paused a moment in his writing to tickle his chin with the end of his quill as he thought. A drop of ink fell from the point and splashed onto his parchment. He sighed sightly and used his wand to clean up the splotch that had occurred right in the middle of his sentence. Mikeal truly hated potions, but he needed them at the same time. He bit his lip slightly as he began to work.

" How old are you Mikeal?" He wasn't really good with keeping up with the age thing. He knew almost half of those that were in Gryffindor, the other half he knew their faces but he never knew anyone real age. He took a deep breath as he stretched out on the couch, his hands stretching above his head as he lay there. "if there was a girl two years younger than younger than you that was cute would you.. try to get her attention.. or would the age difference be too much?" He was in new waters here and it seemed to be drowing his thoughts. He could think of nothing else. What was right and what was wrong and if he took too much time thinking about it and then asked her out and she said no.. he would feel crushed a feeling he'd never had before, but if he realized she would have said yes if he hadn't waited so long would be even worse. His mind was a huge pile of what ifs and right or wrongs.

"Sixteen," Mikeal said, wondering what this train of conversation was going. He stopped writing, but didn't look up from his essay as Charles began to speak. He started talking about some girl, but an age difference. Two years. That would make her what, fifteen? Mikeal never really looked at age difference, of course, he wouldn't see himself flirting with a first or second year, that was disturbing. But a seventh year with a fifth year? No, that was fine. He looked up from his essay once Charles had finished speaking, it seemed that the seventh year really needed guidance on this. "If you feel you like her," said Mikeal. "Ask her if she likes you, if she say no, plenty more fishes in the sea, no?"

He yawned as his eyes closed the image of the girl coming to his mind. He opened his eyes quickly and sat up, turning his torso so that he could look towards the 6th year. "She barely knows me.. none the less ever really noticed me.. I don't even know why i seem to be so.. so infatuated with the girl" He figured she'd never like him, and that cause him to want to figure out what guy she really wanted. "I know there are others out there.. most of them. ... already know me.." He smirked as hel aid back down. He wasn't one to get into a relationship or focus on one girl. He was more the spontaneous type, to grab a girl ask if she wanted to make out and find a corner to do so in. He was a flirt, he loved to make out and it didn't bug him. But this girl was on his mind and he couldn't really think about going out and flirting with anyone.

That was where Mikeal and Charles had some common ground. The sixteen-year-old was a bit of a flirt as well, though probably not as known as Charles was for it. Mikeal had not had as long to establish himself at Hogwarts as the head boy had. Two short years. A relatively small amount of time compared to someone who had gone to Hogwarts since first year. "It probably because of age difference, she probably pay you no mind since she does not see you often." said Mikeal with a shrug. He wondered what house the girl Charles was talking about was in. Perhaps he might know her since sometimes fifth years shared classes with sixth years.

"It's not just that.. it's me.. I can't even get a word out with out seeming awkward.." He took a deep breath as he sat up and looked otwards Mikeal for a moment before laying down. Then he sat up quickly again. " I don't know.. nah I couldn't ask you.. " He laid back down. A few minutes later he lifted himself back up. "Maybe you could find out.. what she thinks of me"

"Jah," said Mikeal, laying down his quill, figuring that he wasn't going to get much work one with the conversation at the moment. Charles seemed pretty serious about this girl, which Mikeal figured didn't happen very often, since he had admitted getting a little tongue-tied when around her. She must be very attractive, if even Charles, one of the biggest flirts in the castle, lost his smooth-talking composure around her. Though they weren't particularly friends, he would do anything for a fellow Gryffindor. "I talk to her if you like," Mikeal said, leaning his chair on its back legs. "What be her name?"

"Kennie Bane she's a Hufflepuff. the Captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team." He wasn't really sure if he should get Mikeal to ask. he should just man up and ask himself but he was a bit afraid of the girls answer. "I mean she barely knows me.. I don't know maybe I should try to hang around her a bit more before you talk to her.. I don't know.. No idea.. this a first." He ran a hand across his forehead.

"Hm," Mikeal said aloud in thought. Though he figured that the friendship approach wasn't always effective, girls got scared of ruining the friendship, even if they liked the guy. He had gone through that once, a pain in the butt. That had been back in Germany when he was all of what, thirteen? Perhaps it worked differently with older people. Mikeal wasn't sure. He was a flirt, not a mental analyst. "Perhaps it might work," said Mikeal. "She might grow to like you if you spend time with her." Kennie Bain. That name rung a bell. She was the girl that had gotten raped in the woods by the path to Hogsmeade. What a horrible thing.

"But what if she did grow to like me and then didn't want anything else but friends I don't think I could handle it.. " SHe was on his mind and he couldn't get her off his head. HE didn't know why. I mean they've probably talked what once. The rest of the time he had just noticed her around. HE didn't realize how much he actualy had grown to crush on her till he heard the news of her getting raped and he wanted to go find the guy andf kill him..He had never felt so much anger.

Mikeal frowned slightly, love was such a sticky, confusing matter. He found that he didn't really know all that much about it. Flirting/making out with and actually loving someone were two very different things. Unfortunately, he felt that he didn't have any experience in it. Therefore, didn't feel qualified to give Charles advice on this. He would try, but he felt just as confused as the seventh year was coming off to him. He stopped leaning back in his chair and turned himself to face Charles. "Then go ask her on date," Mikeal said with a shrug. "Many girls would fight to be your Schmetterling, you know."

"Schmetter.. what.. She's not like the other girls.. she doesn't seem into me.. and that's what I'm worried about and yet it's what made me notice her.. I don't think I've ever wanted to ask someone out so much.. and yet worry so much about a rejection. ANyone else.. I'd just brush myself off and find someone else.. I know there are other girls.. but I .. " HE closed his eyes. "Man .. what happened to me.." He ran a hand across his mouth as he sat up and stared into the fireplace.

"Love my friend, you are liebeskrank, lovesick, with her." Mikeal said, a gentle smirk playing at his lips. He had almost laughed at Charles' attempt at repeating Schmetterling. Still a relatively new speaker of English, he found that the occasional German word might slip into his speech. He much preferred German, English just had so many rules and slang, it was all so confusing. It had taken an exceedingly long time for him to learn. Other languages were not his strong suit. "Schmetterling means butterfly," explained Mikeal. "In Germany it is an affectionate term a man gives to his love interest."
