Joey sighed silently as she walked into the awfully quiet Library. She had a lot on her mind and she needed answers as to why she was having these dreams. Even if it meant something she didn't want to know. She looked around and headed towards the Divination section. She'd definitely find it there. She had never actually taken the class because she had heard that the woman was a fraud.
Joey looked up at the millions of books on dreams. This ought to be interesting... She thought to herself as she folded her arms. She bit her lip and grabbed the few that she could reach and headed towards a table, flipping through the pages. She yawns. The dreams were so urgent...so vivid...more vivid than she'd ever known. And she'd been losing sleep. Lots of it.

Kennie disliked studying in the library, just the nearly complete silence made it nearly impossible for her to focus. It filled her head with a strange sort of buzzing noise that refused to go away. Somebody like Luna Lovegood (they had talked before) would most likely suggest something like a Wrakspurt. Kennie didn't believe in that sort of thing, but those kind of people were always good for a quiet laugh when they weren't paying attention to you. Kennie slid a book on potions off the shelf, only by glancing at the title. She figured it would give her all she needed to know about phases of the moon in potion-making for her essay that was due next week. She looked over at a nearby table and grinned, seeing one of her best friends. "Hello Joey," said Kennie, still smiling, as she slid into the chair across from her friend.

Joey turned and smiled at her friend Kennie. "Hey Kennie," She said and flipped through the book some more. She sighed frustrated. "I don't know exactly what I'm looking for in here, honestly." She shook her head. It was easy to tell that Joey was tired. Her eyes were dark underneath and her face was paler than it usually was. She felt almost weak. Joey put her chin in her hand. "How are you?" She asked trying to get her mind on something else. "I still have a ton of homework to finish anyways. I just can't concentrate on it," She muttered frustratedly. She could go to a professor, but she doubted that they'd know anything. She just wanted to sleep a little. Joey had even considered taking a sleeping potion, but knew that it would be too dangerous. Besides, it wasn't getting to sleep that she had problems with....it was waking up and the headache that she would have afterwards that she had a problem with. The not being able to go back to sleep.

The smile that was on her lips just didn't feel real to Kennie, so she allowed it to slowly fade away, and her expression to return to being neutral once more. Life was difficult, especially for fifth years that would be taking their Ordinary Wizard Level tests in the spring. Apparently because of this, teachers felt they could assign three times the amount of typical homework, which Kennie assumed would only get worse as the exams loomed closer. But for now, she was finished with the assigned homework for that evening, with the exception of her essay for potions. "Are the dreams happening again?" Kennie asked with a bit of concern, completely ignoring Joey's inquiry as to how she was. She wasn't too bad at Divination, certainly not the best, but she liked to decode dreams, perhaps she might be able to help. Kennie wouldn't recomend that she go to Professor Trelawney, since she would give some botched "insight" to them.

Joey watched as Kennie was thinking the same thing she was. OWLS. And Joey was surely to do terrible if she didn't get enough sleep this year. It was already starting to affect her. She wasn't nearly as cheerful or energetic as she used to be. "Yeah... its always the same thing. I just wish it would change a little. If it is trying to tell me something... or theres a reason I'm having it... I wish it would be a little more clear," She said gloomily. "I'm afraid that coffee isn't even helping me anymore."

"Maybe the coffee is causing it," Kennie said teasingly, then figured that now wasn't the best time for sarcasm. It seemed that both her best friends were having weird dreams these days, even Simon. She did not envy them. "All right, amatuer dream-decoder at your service," said Kennie, reaching into her bag for her Divination textbook, then flipped to the reference section for dream aspects. But she had a feeling it might be a bit more complicated than what she expected.

Joey smiled, feeling better that maybe Kennie could help her. The dreams were getting more and more vivid. Thats all that she could understand of them. "Maybe look under recurring dreams about...a dying parent?" She asked, not sure if it was in there. "Maybe its telling me about my....." She stopped and shook her head. Joey had no idea where her father was. She figured that he was either dead or he didn't want her. She pretended he was dead. "I don't know..." She said trying to act like she wasn't bothered. Truth was, she loved her Godmother very much. She was her parent. But sometimes Joey wanted a father. She would watch other kids play sports with their dads and run up to them while their dad would pick them up in the air. She watched movies where the dad would be overprotective and never let their daughter date. She sighed. "Find anything?"

"Just one moment," Kennie said, skimming the pages for a reference to an element that might have been in one of Joey's dreams. She frowned a bit, she wasn't really finding anything yet. Ah, that was it. She prepared herself to read aloud. "That's it," said Kennie. "You're feeling that you need a paternal influence in life and aren't sure where to go to obtain that, I think." She started reading again, trying to see if there was anything else she could decode.

Joey shrugged. "Well no surprise there," She said while shaking her head. "I guess theres nothing I can do about that, can I?" She mumbled. Joey sighed and looked around. She was suddenly in a need to get out of there. Kennie had a father who wanted her and loved her. Joey often envied that. "What else is there?" She asked.

Kennie looked up from the book as Joey spoke again, then returned to skimming to find what she was looking for. This was just a pile of sticky wax. "Something life-altering could be happening to you or someone you know in the near future," Kennie read aloud from one of the passages. She wasn't exactly sure if that was a good thing, sometimes it could be for the better, or worse. Dreams were tricky things to figure out. They tried to tell you what your conscious brain was unable to do, but in such deep code that oftentimes they seemed almost impossible to find a meaning behind them. "You don't see recurring motifs of things appearing in threes or sevens in these dreams, do you?" asked Kennie. Those numbers were bad things. Twos and fours were fine, but threes and sevens...

Joey shrugged. "It's always the same. I'm hiding in the closet, I hear a scream which I'm thinking is my mom's, and then... the laugh..." She said shaking her head. "And a flash of light," She added. She didn't know if she liked the idea of some life-altering thing happening. Unless it was good. She could use something good. "I don't exactly see much. Its just like its a memory..." She shrugged. "But I was a baby that night...." She said, unsure how it was possible. "We were the last family to be attacked...." She said quietly. She loved her godmother, but she wondered about her mom. How was she like? What did she look like?

"Scream, laugh, flash of light," Kennie murmered under her breath. That was three. She referenced to the book once more, just to see if her asumptions could be correct. She frowned a bit. Threes never brought good things. Unless there were three butterflies or three apples. Either of those things meant luck and fortune. But this was a series of events that happened in a group of three. "Hang on," Kennie mumbled, flipping the pages. It couldn't be that, could it? No, she was just being paranoid. Wait, she found the last bit. "An event of some significance will happen to someone close to you, and, that's all I can find..." Kennie concluded.

Joey shook her head as Kennie murmured it under her breath. Three obviously didn't sound very good. What could it be though? She sighed and put her head in her arms for a second and then readjusted herself. She needed to sleep. It was no secret about that. But she couldn't. Even if she did, she would have the dream again and wake up. She shook her head. "Hmmm interesting..."

"Very interesting indeed," Kennie said in agreement with her best friend. She snapped the book closed and set it off to the side, then opened the book she had gotten on potions and pulled out her essay. It was thrilling for it to be the last bit of homework that she had to complete for now. Maybe she and Joey might sneak away to Hogsmeade, that was, if she was almost finished with her homework as well. Knowing Joey, she was probably completely done since she was the way that she was. Kennie frowned a bit, she had never care much for potions, but she would need them since she aspired to become an Auror, and had to get an Outstanding on her OWL exams if she were going to be allowed to take NEWT potions.

Joey smiled gratefully at her best friend. "Thanks for helping me. You need help with potions? I've finished mine finally. It took ages," She said. Luckily, her grades were improving even more than before. She would usually work on her homework whenever she couldn't sleep. It helped her keep busy. She remembered that this potions homework was particularly difficult. Joey kind of liked potions sometimes. "Have you talked to Simon lately?" she asked, trying to make small talk. Joey was terrible at small talk, actually.
