WELCOME TO HERBOLOGY LESSON ONE
Marianna grinned with excitement as she shuffled into the Greenhouse, this would be her second home for as long as she remained at Hogwarts. The smile remained on her face as she gazed to the various plants and flowers that decorated the classroom, she particularly liked the large umbrella like blooms that trailed across the ceiling, their sweet frangrance also added to their appeal.
As the daughter of the infamous Pomana Sprout, Herbology Teacher and Head of Hufflepuff, it became Marianna's duty to live up to her name. She clearly had the knowledge and passion for this subject but she was still incredibley nervous about actually teaching, although I guess that was to be expected.
With one final check over making sure the appropriate equipment was set out, Marianna was finally ready to begin her class. Wiping her sweaty palms on the tanned overalls she sported, Mari quickstepped to the glass door and awaitied for her students arrival. Today's lesson was going to be particularly dangerous, she just hoped these kids were ready for it...

Harry walked in first, it was unusual for him to enter a classroom unaccompanied by either one, or both of his best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. But as it was, he was alone that morning, having just come from Care of Magical Creatures. Harry supposed that both of his friends had gotten sidetracked as they walked from the area near Hagrid's hut, or he had been looking far too brooding for conversation. True, the boy had been lingering on heavy subjects of late, and not to mention the general lack of sleep made him seem surly, and probably not an ideal candidate to approach. Harry shifted his bag to his other shoulder as he entered, then took his usual spot in the greenhouse.
He had not said anything to Professor Sprout (it felt weird calling her that, as Harry had had her mother teach him Herbology for the past four years. He assumed that she had retired or something), but had given a curt nod in greeting. Harry ran a hand through his hair, putting his elbow down on the table. He was vaguely interested in what the lesson would be on today, but not interested enough to inquire. Besides, Herbology had never been his favourite subject, it was Neville's, and he usually knew enough about it so Harry could approach him when Hermione told him that she was busy and that he ought to be doing his own work.

The quirky dirty blonde hair girl entered the greenhouse with a warm smile on her face. NOt as upbeat as she usualy was, but not depressed. She was content and that's all that mattered to her at the moment. She had spent a half hour before class just sitting, relaxing and watching the clouds and her environment. Every now and then she'd imagine monkeys and people and other creatures interacting around the area she sat. IT helped her when it came time to writing books and coming up with stories to tell around a camp fire, that sort of thing. She tucked her hair behind her ear with her left hand, in her right she held a couple of books. Over her shoulder was a side bag that held her quill and other things. She wasn't alone, usually she was the first student to arrive to a class, but there were already three or four students sitting about, sort of far away from each other. She paused in the doorway and looked around, her eyes went from the students that were in the greenhouse to the teacher and then to all the empty seats. Where to sit, was the only question on her mind. She wanted a good seat.

Charlotte stuffed the rest of her books into her bag, it had been a rather long period for her, the double-periods were always the hardest. She had been in Care of Magical Creatures and Muggle Studies. It was rather difficult to have an over-full schedule, but Charlotte couldn't bring herself to drop any subjects, it had been hard enough to get rid of Divination, even if she had been horrible at it, and pretty much hated the entire class, right down to the teacher that taught it. Professor Trelawney was just an old fraud, anybody ought to be able to see through that. Especially with the over-dramatic "glances into the future." Charlotte might not have been good at Divination, but that didn't make her stupid.
Charlotte made her way down to the Greenhouses, being rather excited about going to Herbology. It was a fun class, but the idea of having a new teacher was a little bit unnerving. She had heard the rumours that after Professor Sprout had retired that her daughter had interviewed for (and gotten) her mother's old position. Well, at least Charlotte wouldn't have to memorize a new name, even if she didn't like the new Professor Sprout. She walked into the Greenhouse with a smile and quick nod to Professor Sprout, then looked up and saw none other than Harry Potter. He seemed troubled about something and she briefly played with the idea of asking, but then continued to her usual seat on the other side of the Greenhouse.

Aliyah pushed the door open roughly after she just pushed a 1st year out of her way. They got a new teacher? She said eyeing the young one. Not that she gave a damn anyways, one pointless class to the next, god did she hate having to go see the oaf Hagrid. What exactly was the point of his class anyways? Did it really matter if they knew what the hell a flobberworm was?
"Honestly, this place has gone downhill, first to the giants and now here?" She murmured until her blue eyes fell upon Potter, 'The Chosen one', and a smirk formed across her pale, full lips. "What's wrong Potter?" She questioned, noticing that the mudblood and blood-traitor wheren't at his side, " The 'Golden Trio' isn't together today? Did they finally get fed up with your stories too? Did they leave you like every other filthy person in your life?" She shot at him, sneering in the process. As she threw her bag down at a table that was unoccupied.
Seriously, Who was she going to sit by, A Hufflepuff? Not happening. A Gryffindor? Even less likely. A Ravenclaw? Well, it didn't really matter. They'd probably have there nose so deep into the book they wouldn't even notice. If there where no Slytherins then she sat by herself. That's they way it's always been, and it's not changing now.

He took a deep breath as he walked down the staircase. Herbology, yes a fun class, but today he didn't really feel like showing up to it. He was stopped by a few people along the way, and he had to have a little short conversation with each of them, otherwise he would have seemed rude. Running his hand through his hair, he had no books with him. After getting off the staircase Simon moved down the hall and out to the greenhouse. He didn't seem like the only one that didn't want to be there that day. As soon as he entered the greenhouse, half of the people in the room seemed distant or upset. Moving passed the slytherin girl, who seemed to be a lone snake, he moved to sit three or four seats down from Potter.

"Fuck off," Harry said under his breath as the Slytherin girl taunted him. His wand was in his back pocket, tantalizing him to pull it out and cast some nasty curse at her. While normally impulsive, Harry knew that would be an extremely stupid thing to do, especially right in front of a teacher. Ron and Hermione were just... Not there at the moment. Surely they would join them soon. Ron had a pretty clean school record, and Harry knew that Hermione would much rather eat an entire cauldron full of completely raw Bubotuber pus than miss a lesson, regardless of any reason. Anger had been building up behind a damn in Harry's chest for days, it was an immense burden.
Every time he was taunted, or jeered at by Slytherins, a little crack was made in the dam. Crack by crack it was slowly crumbling. Just like every time he got really, truly, angered, it was awful. Harry just hoped that every slimy Slytherin in the castle was around him when he exploded, so that way he might curse them all into tiny, bits, so unrecognizable that when they went home their own mothers wouldn't know who they were, or what for that matter. Harry bit his lip and balled his hand into a fist so tightly that his knuckles turned white. Whoever that girl was, was asking for her nose broken. Fortunately, Harry didn't believe in physically hitting girls.

She smirked as she saw him mutter, he was just a ticking time bomb. And how she hoped she would be the one to make him explode. "Aww, Whats the matter, Potter? Someone doesn't know how to speak there mind?" She jeered as she leaned forward slightly, resting her elbow on the table and her head in her palm, staring him dead in the eye. "Is someone too much of a prat to say what they really feel? C'mon I thought Gryffindors where supposed to be brave!" She taunted, leaning back lazily in her seat as though bored now.
That is until another thought popped in her head, "Is it finally getting to you? The fact that no one in the whole wide world believes you now Potter, because you're nothing but a liar." She practically spat the last word at him, her blue yes taunting him as though daring him. How she would love to be the reason for another one of Potters detentions. Even though the majority of the time he got let off of his detentions. Well she would make damn sure he'd be punished, and not sent to that giants hagrids where he probably had tea instead of detention.

"Excuse me.." The prefect said as she moved towards the slytherin girl. "You are in my way.. " she moved her hand giving a little wave of her hand as if saying nicely shoo,go away. She waited watching the girl closely. Once the slytherin would move away, that would be when she would give a warm smile and nod to Potter and then continue her alk around the large table. She had decided she would sit on the opposite side. Taking her seat and looking across no one was infront of her at the other table. Two seats to her right at the other table was a huffle puff to the left was Harry. She sat alone on her side of the table she sat. "Her eyes moved towards the teacher. "Hello Professor." She gave a warm smile. "Excited about class today?"

Aliyah stared blankly up at the girl as though saying Excuse me? She could deal with a please, or an excuse me. But deffinatly absoulutly no one would wave there hand as though she was a fly. It was just not happening. She has never and will never let it happen. Ever.
She noticed the prefect badge of course. What was she going to do? Deduct points? She'd just make them up later. So with one of her eyebrows raised delicatly over her icy eyes, she just stared for a minute. Did this girl really have the balls to do that?
Well guess what. This girl had bigger balls. So she leaned back, crossing her arms and staring straight up at her.

As the students began to arrive one by one, the realisition that she was now a teacher and responsible for the children's future became apparent. Nerves seemed to overtake her but her mother had urged her to stay calm, there was nothing worse than having a mumbling wreck for a teacher, student's would simply take advantage. No, Marianna had to show she was strong, that she was confident, she just had too. Taking one final deep breath she closed the Greenhouse door and strolled towards the front where she was in full view of her class. Students from each house were present and she began to observe them, their conversations soon making it clear why they had been sorted into that particular house. The Slytherin had already started a verbal attack on the Gryffindor, the Ravenclaw was silent waiting patiently to begin and the Hufflepuff had shown warmth by acknologing the Professor and giving her a friendly welcome. Marianna returned the smile and nodded before saying, "I'm very excited!"
Marianna clapped her hands to get the pupils attention, class would now begin, afterall it was now or never. "Welcome fifth and sixth years!" she cheered, her eyes darting from one student to the next. "As you may or may not know I am your new Herbology teacher. Yes, my moth-, I mean Professor Sprout has retired and I will be taking over." she explained, hoping the children were understanding of having a new face teaching them. She knew it was only natural for them to be a little uneasy at first, however they would soon come out of their shell and begin to test her, but oh no she would be ready to show them who was boss. She may have come across the dainty, quiet, pushover type but no, she knew how to stand up for herself. "I know it's going to be quite the change but I'm sure you will get used to it in no time at all" she reassured. "My name is Marianna but you can call me Professor Sprout" she smiled, knowing they would soon clock on she was Pomona's daughter, not that minded of course. "Yes I am" she grinned, answering their question before they could even ask.
"I'm gathering you have all bought along your Herbology text books and essential equipment?" she asked. "I was going to give you a theory lesson to prepare you for your O.W.L's, however, seeing as it's your first class this term we will do something a little more fun" Marianna wanted to make a good first impression, why bore the students with a hour lecture on aconite, no, this would be way more exciting. "Bubotubers or Fanged Geraniums?" she muttered to herself, pondering which to work with today. The Bubotubers were very dangerous to the skin if not cared for correctly, perhaps the Geraniums would provide a better option today.
"Okay class! If you could take out your dragon hide gloves and pick up one of those ceramic pots over on the table we can begin" she said, pointing to the back of the classroom where the planting equipment sit.

Harry bit down forcefully on his tongue. What he wouldn't give to have the Slytherins lay off of him and his personal life for just a day... Just when he was starting to taste a bit of blood in his mouth, the new teacher had started to speak to them all. His attention wandered to and fro, not staying on one thing for a terribly long amount of time. That usually happened when he was tired, or had too many things on his mind. Presently, Harry had both problems ailing him. Where the hell were Ron and Hermione? They had both been at Care of Magical Creatures, which had not been far from the Greenhouses. Had something gone wrong?
Harry pushed the thoughts from his mind as he got into his bag after the new Professor Sprout's instructions. He dug around a moment for his dragonhide gloves, which of course, had to be all the way at the bottom, just to be an annoyance or something of the matter. Harry placed them on his hands and shoved everything back into his bag. Consequently, his was the last one to the pots, so he was landed with the oldest-looking, faded and slightly chipped one. Harry didn't really mind, what did it matter anyways? He looked anxiously toward the Greenhouse door, as if expecting Ron and Hermione to appear there all of a sudden.

HE stooed up and moved around to the other table. Sitting down next to his fellow Hufflepuff. He didn't say anything to the girl. He knew she dated Cedric, probably one of the few people to realize the two had a relationship. OF course no one would believe that now after the dance with cho. He simply looked to his fellow hufflepuff and gave a warm smile. She seemed alright though, but was she re HE didn't know and that was what bothered him. he was her best friend. Even though he had a crush on her a few years back, he knew they would always be just friends. They had a brother-sister type relationship and nothing more. HE stood up and grabbed some protective equipment and went over and handed it to the blonde hufflepuff. After which , Simon got his own gear and took his seat once more. They wouldn't be sitting for long, Herbology wasn't a class you did a lot of sitting, but maybe he was wrong.
Simon looked towards the teacher as he waited for more instructions. His eyes soon looked over the class running from the slytherin to the gryffindors. he looked back to Sara-May. "How has your .." HE was about to ask her about her day, when he felt a glare.

Joey snuck in slightly late and slumped in a seat next to Simon, her best friend. She took note of the new teacher and had heard that she was the older Professor Sprouts daughter. "Hey," She whispered to him as she put her messenger bag under them. She looked up at the other Ravenclaw and waved, seeing as she had seen her around more than enough times. People would believe that she and Simon were dating by the way they were always together. But it had been like that since they met. She looked over at Harry Potter who looked absolutely gloomy and the other Hufflepuff who she didn't really recognize. Joey took out her book and quill and put her attentions on the teacher for a few minutes out of respect. Perhaps the lady would forgive her for being a little late.

She was late. Really, really late. This didn't normally happen to Kennie, but she had overslept that morning by a lot and missed her first class of the day, Transfiguration, and woke up just in time to discover that she had slept right up until fifteen minutes before Herbology was to start. Kennie had literally thrown on her clothes and sprinted all the way to the Greenhouses, using the hood of her school robes to shield her face from the sun. Because of her albinism, Kennie sunburned in as little as five minutes, so she generally disliked outdoor subjects such as Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures. She slipped inside, slipping right in to the movement of people going to get ceramic pots.
She grabbed one and slid into a seat near her two best friends in the world, Josephine Raegan and Simon Sarima. Kennie rummaged around in her bag a moment to find her dragon hide gloves, then promptly put them on. They weren't the most fashionable things, but at least they protected her hands from the intensified sunlight inside the greenhouses. Kennie had not even removed her hood to keep her face in shadow. "Hi," Kennie whispered to Joey and Simon, then looked to the professor, hoping that she had not noticed her coming in late, that could mean lost points for Hufflepuff, and most of them disliked her already, saying that she should have been a Slytherin.
